Mentoring
Mentoring  sessions are available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between3.30pm and 5pm. An appointment is required in advance. To book, simply call 01773510882 or email info@snapdp.org.uk

A mentor isn’t a teacher, a parent or a social worker, they’re trained adults you can talk to. They’ll listen, they won’t judge, and they won’t get annoyed. If you have serious issues, they may share them with someone who can help you and your family. Otherwise, everything you say is just between the two of you.

Your mentor can help you find things that you are good at, they can also arrange activities and new stuff for you to try like sports, drama, cooking or going places that you have not been before. You might have a particular goal, like coping better with feelings or looking at college options. Your mentor can help and will celebrate with you when you succeed.

The SNAP Youth mentoring service provides one to one support for young people aged 10+. Youth mentoring is a purposeful relationship between a young person and a professional youth worker. It involves the exchange of support, advice, encouragement and skills development.

The SNAP Youth Workers are available to chat and help you work through issues that matter to you. Issues may include education, employment, relationships, crime, health, alcohol and drug use.

What’s On?

SNaP Youth Club – Tuesday

SNaP Youth Club (age 11-16 years)
The SNaP youth club takes place on a Tuesday evening providing a space to chill-out, relax, play games and have fun with their friends; explore and discuss issues facing young people, such as equality, stereotyping, keeping safe and healthy, identity, bullying, culture, body image, and relationships.  Being part of a group can help young people develop important personal and interpersonal skills. These include the ability to communicate clearly, work with others, think critically and solve problems as well as being able to identify and take personal responsibility. It can also help young people develop a greater self-confidence and self-esteem.

Monday SNaP Youth Club

Monday, 5-7pm – SNaP Youth Club

The Monday Youth Club is essentially a “transition” youth club. It was initially developed as a way of supporting children who are finishing primary school and transitioning into secondary school. Opening the SNaP Youth Club doors to young people from the aged of ten years was founded on the premise that they will settle into the youth club and ‘get to know’ and become familiar with some of the year 7, and 8 students before September.

The youth workers and existing youth club members receive newcomers in a way that is welcoming and warm, friendly and thoughtful, always willing to help and guide them find their way and settle in. The youth workers acknowledge the development stage of a ten-year-old and place emphasis on the importance of play and having fun together – they do not expect or want children to grow up too quickly. The youth workers focus on getting to know each individual young person; supporting them to identify and work through their fears, hopes and challenges as well as helping them to make informed choices about their actions and behaviour.
