Monday, 5-7pm – SNaP Youth Club
The Monday Youth Club is essentially a “transition” youth club. It was initially developed as a way of supporting children who are finishing primary school and transitioning into secondary school. Opening the SNaP Youth Club doors to young people from the aged of ten years was founded on the premise that they will settle into the youth club and ‘get to know’ and become familiar with some of the year 7, and 8 students before September.
The youth workers and existing youth club members receive newcomers in a way that is welcoming and warm, friendly and thoughtful, always willing to help and guide them find their way and settle in. The youth workers acknowledge the development stage of a ten-year-old and place emphasis on the importance of play and having fun together – they do not expect or want children to grow up too quickly. The youth workers focus on getting to know each individual young person; supporting them to identify and work through their fears, hopes and challenges as well as helping them to make informed choices about their actions and behaviour.
